What is better: a wooden spatula or a metal one?
A spatula is used in the kitchen in most cases when baking. The material from which this kitchen product is made must therefore be heat-resistant. Wood and metal are two heat-resistant materials and spatulas are often made from them. But is a wooden spatula more convenient to use, or is it better to choose a metal spatula?
Environmental friendliness
The big difference between a wooden spatula and a metal spatula is a wooden spatula in many cases entirely made of natural material. Therefore, this kitchen utensil is also better for the environment. In addition, the natural material also creates a nice atmosphere, and each kitchen product has a unique grain.
Easy to use
One advantage of a wooden spatula is that it doesn't scratch pans, while a metal spatula does. This can be very useful, especially with today's non-stick pans. It would be a shame if they got scratched. The end of a wooden spatula also doesn't get hot while cooking. You can therefore leave the kitchen tool in the pan for a longer period and then grab the handle without burning yourself.
Hygiene of a wooden or metal spatula
When it comes to hygiene, it's often claimed that it's better to use a metal spatula. If you use a wooden spatula, food residue can seep into it. The smell and taste can then transfer to the next dish if you use the same spatula again. This can also apply to bacteria. This often only happens if you haven't washed the spatula properly in between uses. However, you won't experience this with olive wood spatulas. Food residue seeps into this wood much less quickly because it is oily. In terms of hygiene, an olive wood spatula is therefore on par with a metal spatula, and in terms of eco-friendliness and practicality, this kitchen product even has an edge. So, a wooden spatula is the best choice!
